Wrapping Up the Week of 9/9/18 – 9/15/18 with Quotes
I hope everyone had an amazing week! I know I’ve been super busy – moving into a new house, working, and making sure I stay up to date with the blog schedule. Good news is, everything in the house is almost put together and I will be able to get back on track with the website. As we head into the weekend, make sure you take some time to relax and do at least one thing you love! Despite the hectic week, we still covered a lot here! In summary of this week:
- This week was National Suicide Prevention Week (NSPW). We talked about ways you can get involved to end the stigma and even save someones life.
- Suicide hotline #: 800.273.TALK
- The American Association of Suicidology is a great resource to stay informed on how you can make a difference, and even become certified to help.
- Educate yourself on the warning signs of suicide and know how to appropriately respond.
- We touched on the basics of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – what it is, how it is beneficial, and how you can start practicing.
- The four modules are distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.
- You can join therapy classes or purchase DBT workbooks to learn on your own (links in the post).
- DBT focuses on ‘developing a life worth living’ with a purpose and connection.
- Next, we reminded ourselves about gratitude and why it is important to remember to take the time to reflect on things and people that are in our lives, rather than things or people that aren’t.
- Remember to thank people in your life for supporting you.
- Reach out to family members or friends who have moved away/you haven’t talked to in a while.
- Life benefits of practicing gratitude are: stronger relationships, increased happiness, increases self-esteem, boosts immune system, and more.
- Finally, we learned about how Airbnb is doing an awesome job at doing what they can to support Hurricane Florence victims by allowing users to open up their homes for free to people evacuating and is crisis.
- If you or someone you know is affected by the storm, head to airbnb.com/disaster for available homes that are free of charge to families in need.
- Over 300 people in Pennsylvania and Alabama alone are stepping up to help.
If you missed any of these posts, be sure to head back to the website to read all about it! Tomorrow I will be discussing a simple way to practice self-care that is often overlooked, but the most important. Stay tuned and let me know what you thought of this week!
The quotes I found most meaningful this week are . . .
“If you can stay positive in a negative situation, you automatically win.”
“Your faith can move mountains and your doubt can create them.”
“Don’t ignore the efforts of a person who tries to keep in touch – it’s not all the time that someone cares.”
“I’ve never met a strong person with an easy past.”
“People being happy for people who are happy is such a magical thing…”
Wrapping Up the Week of 8/19/18 – 8/25/18 with Quotes
Happy Friday! Another week in the books. Hopefully you all had a productive and easy-going week! What a week it was…we talked about a lot here and hopefully learned some new things! I know I did. I always enjoy researching more mental health topics and am so excited for next week. Be sure to sign up for the email newsletter to get quick access to each daily post and stay up-to-date with all the latest mental health tips, resources, statistics, products, and more!
This week we covered:
- Why we all need a “staycation” and the benefits of a staycation > an expensive vacation.
- Catastrophizing: what is is and how to prevent it.
- How drinking water plays a huge role in our mental health and brain power (with a link to my favorite product that helps me make sure I drink all the water I need!)
- How to make ‘coping cards’ and how to use them as positive affirmations.
- And lastly, we learned how common psychosis really is and what to do if you or someone you know experiences psychosis – or even just how to handle it if you come across someone who is out of touch with reality at the moment. We can all be a helping hand or a listening ear!
If you missed any of these postings, remember to head back and read them. You won’t regret it!

Quotes of the day 8/5/18 – a little inspiration to head into a new week!
It’s Sunday Fun-day! For me, that includes getting my life together. Every Sunday, I do laundry and clean up for the week. I like having Monday’s as a ‘fresh start’. What’s your Sunday routine? I hope it’s relaxing and productive 🙂
Today’s quotes are some that I found to be inspiring and meaningful as we head into a new week:
“We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day.”
“It’s not the mountains ahead to climb that wears you out, it’s the pebble in your shoe.”
“There is no need to be perfect to inspire others…Let people get inspired by how you deal with your imperfections.”
“If all you did today was hold yourself together…I’m proud of you!”
“A no.2 pencil and a dream can take you anywhere…write down your goals!”
Quotes of the day 7/31/18 – a pinch of positivity to get you through Tuesday
Tuesday is my least favorite day of the week (we all have one right?) so here are some affirmations I found to pick myself up and get through the day strong! What’s your least favorite day of the week and how do you power through it? Tuesday’s just a day for me that is after Monday and right before half of the week is over. To me, it’s like a hump-day eve and it feels like I am trying to get over Tuesday and Wednesday at the same time. Remember (and I will too) one day at a time! <3
“Be stubborn about your goals and flexible about your methods.”
“It’s the sweet simple things of life, which are the real ones after all.”
“The longer you wait for the future, the shorter it will be.”
“Live in a way that if someone spoke badly about you, no one would believe it.”
“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.”
Quotes of the day 7/30/18 – motivation to stay focused…and not cave!
If you read my earlier post Intermittent Fasting Facts, then you know today is Day 1 of my 16:8 fasting routine. So I’m definitely in need of some motivational affirmations to make sure I keep focused and don’t let myself cave in! I brought myself to my local coffee shop to sit (away from the fridge) and do a little self-care. What are you doing today to plan for the new month in a couple of days? I challenge you to challenge yourself!
Here are today’s quotes that I connected with:
“Push yourself, because no-one is going to do it for you.”
“The pain of the process is only temporary, but the feeling of achievement lasts forever.”
“Success is a state of mind…if you want success, you have to start thinking of yourself as a success.”
“When you think about quitting, think about why you started.”
“Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”
Quotes of the day 7/29/18 – some inspiration for the new month quickly approaching.
I can’t believe there are only 2 days left in July! It flew by. Oh well because August is my favorite month, and also my birthday month! Bring it on.
Here are the QOTD (Quotes of the Day…I am going to start using this acronym more so heads up!) that I found helpful and empowering as we are preparing to head into a new month. ALSO PSA: The start of a new month is the perfect time to start a new habit or activity. Here is a link to an awesome 30 Day Mental Health Challenge. Try it out! It’s a great way to accomplish something small each day.
“Your circle should want to see you win. Your circle should clap the loudest when you have good news. If they don’t, get a new circle.”
“You’re always one decision away from a totally different life.”
“A new month, a new week, a new day…the opportunities are endless.”
“A new goal should scare you a little, and excite you A LOT!”
“Every new month is like a fresh piece of paper, and only you will decide what will be written on it.”
Quotes of the day 7/26/18 – some motivation to keep your head up.
Today I woke up and I really just wasn’t “feeling it.” We all know this feeling…”just not feeling it.” It’s not sad…it’s not happy…it’s just…eh. I let myself feel this way for a solid hour before I finally realized it wasn’t how I wanted to spend my day.
Hey, better late than never. At least I realized it…and I turned my mood around. All on my own. Progress and small victories, my friends. I thought of the bigger picture, along with these quotes I love:
“If it isn’t going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes being upset by it.”
“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.”
“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
“Each day I bring a new positive attitude, trying to be better than the one before.”
“Stop focusing on how stressed you are and start focusing on how blessed you are.”
“Don’t give up what you want most, for what you want now.” (I’ve been trying not to ruminate with this one…)
Quotes of the day 7/24/18 – a little reminder its OKAY TO TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF!
I went MIA for a couple of days and usually I would say sorry…but today, SORRY NOT SORRY! And here’s why: I took a couple of days to do some “cleaning up” on myself. I spent 2 full afternoons after work- media-free, reading my new book, painting my nails, wearing face masks, taking long showers, working on my bullet journal, and organizing! I feel so refreshed. Now, I DO hold myself accountable for this blog, however, what good am I if I don’t keep my own needs in check? Never feel guilty for doing what you need to in order to take care of yourself and be your best YOU (: I hope you all make the time to do the same, especially when life gets a little hectic. Tip: If you find the need to take some time for yourself, tell the ones you love! This way, they don’t become worried if you are distant and it sets healthy boundaries.
Today’s affirmations that I found helpful/just the kick-in-the-ass I needed:
“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
“You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.”
“Find a way to hear what you want. Recognize what is your dream. And then put everything you have into that.”
“She’s a doer, a thinker, a dreamer…she sees possibility everywhere.”
“She loved life so it loved her right back.”
Quotes of the day 7/21/18 – a reminder to take some time for yourself!
The weekend always flies by with little “me” time, especially since I work weekends also. BUT, here are some reminders I found for myself and I even planned some free time for myself tonight. What are you doing on this Saturday to do some self-care?
“You can only see as far as you think.”
“Trust yourself – you know yourself more than you think you do.”
“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
“Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.”
“Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable or happy and strong. The work is the same for each.”
Quotes of the day 7/20/18 – a little reminder to keep Fun Friday, fun.
Usually I’m excited for Friday’s, but today has been a struggle between having to reschedule vacation and planning for my birthday. Oh well! Life goes on and I’m determined to make today a good work day filled with fun afterwards. I mean come on, it IS Fun Friday! What’re you doing today to reward yourself after another long work week checked off? Remember to make time to unwind and do something for yourself!
Here are the quotes I found that will keep my attitude on the right track and bust through this last work day until the weekend!
“When a person becomes their own best friend, life becomes easier.”
“If you can’t change your fate, change your attitude.”
“A person who never make a mistake never tried anything new.”
“Kindness is the language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
“Never get so busy making a living that your forget to make a life.”
Quotes of the day 7/19/18 – Thoughtful Thursday…we’re almost to Fun Friday!
Sorry I missed yesterdays quotes! I hope you found some somewhere else that you really liked! I made a couple other blog posts yesterday and this kind of slipped away from me. But we all need a day to reflect and think mindlessly without having to keep up on reading quotes of the day!
So we’ll start back up this beautiful Thursday morning and I’ll throw a few extra ones in there:
“Having patience will achieve more than forcing something.”
“It’s important to keep your eye on the future and not dwell on the past, but it is equally important to look back and realize all of your successes and accomplishments that led you to where you are now.”
“Sometimes you need to quit the mediocre things to experience the amazing.”
“Life has many ways of testing a persons will, it can either be nothing happening at all or it all happening at once.”
“Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles, it empties today of it’s strength.”
“People may here your words, but they feel your attitude.”
” Life is something you CHOOSE to make better.”
Quotes of the day 7/17/18 – Keep at it! You’re doing great this week! Oh…it’s only Tuesday?
Its always a glass-of-cold-water-in-the-face when you realize it’s only Tuesday when it feels like a Friday. Today I started reading a magazine called Essential Guide to Self Care by Prevention magazine to keep my focus for the rest of the week. It’s set up more like a book, on newspaper-y feeling pages with LOTS of amazing tips on self-care and the science behind why our body responds to stress and anxiety the way that it does. The magazine is set up in short chapters, which is what I really like. Click the link to look at it and maybe subscribe to the magazine if it interests you! I bought this single copy at CVS for the same price as listed on the link. I’m all about finding new ways to keep positive, and finding a new good read to de-stress after a long Tuesday. (*Also, Happy Birthday shout-out to my Dad!) Here are the quotes of the day I followed to keep my head up and on track to my goals:
“Start today, not tomorrow…if anything, you should have started yesterday.”
“We accept the life and love we think we deserve…it’s time to realize what you deserve.”
“Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.”
“You don’t need everyone to love you, just a few good people.”
“When it rains, look for rainbows. When it’s dark, look for stars.”
Quotes of the day 7/16/18 – some motivation to continue working toward our goals for the rest of the week.
Just another manic monday….Just kidding, I had the day off (but I work tomorrow through the 27th with no days off). ANYWAYS! Today was super relaxing and productive. I hope all of you had a productive day as well, no matter what tasks you had to take on today.
With an 11 day work streak coming up, I need a little motivation/inspiration, so here it is! Today’s quotes of the day that I found to keep my motivation high and focused going into tomorrow.
“It doesn’t matter how slowly you go as long as you don’t stop.”
“Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life begins to change.”
“Wake up with determination so you can go to bed with satisfaction.”
“Do not go where the path may lead. Instead, go where there is no path and leave a trail.”
“It doesn’t matter what others are doing, it matters what YOU are doing.”
*I also want to leave a link to a really great and cute little book of positive quotes by famous people that was given to me by my mentor during my internship (which is the image you see with this post). I keep it handy and tear out pages that I really like and pin them to the walls in my room or boards by my office desk as a reminder: You Are Doing a Great Freaking Job Book
Quotes of the day 7/15/18 – a positive mindset to head into a brand new week!
I don’t know about you guys, but today has been a very productive day! I’ve been trying to use Sunday’s as a day to recoup and get things together for the week; do laundry, meal prep, clean up the place, and take some “me” time. Today I even got to go to the street art fair that I always look forward to going to every year.
Anywho, here are some of my favorite quotes I came across today to prepare us for another week ahead! I always say that Monday’s are a great day to start a new habit…or break one!
“It’s a Monday. It’s a new week. God is doing a New Thing. New doors. New breaks. New blessings. Prepare your mind. Enlarge your vision.”
“A Sunday well spent brings a week of content.”
“For tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”
“Okay. It’s Monday. But who said Monday’s have to suck? Be a rebel and have a great day anyways.”
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
Quotes can come from songs too, right? I know I love when I listen to music that is just SO relatable that it feels like it was written for me. Music is a great way to escape from reality, or even cope with it a little easier. It’s always a good feeling when you find a song that you can relate to and think “hey, I’m probably not the only one going through this or having these feelings.”
Here are my top 10 favorite “feel good” songs that always change my mood into a happier one! I tried keeping them as current as possible. I think it’s a great idea to make a “feel good” or a “happy listening” playlist and keep it stored on your phone, whether it be through Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, (or try something new/old and burn a CD!). This way, you already have something put together to pop into the car radio or click and turn on when you aren’t feeling the best.
Also, here is a link to an article by Psychology Today called The Neuroscience of Music, Mindset, and Motivation that explains the science of how music really puts us in a better mood and can change our thinking process. Enjoy! Maybe you learned something new. I know I did!

Why I started this “Quotes Page” –
The final task I had to complete before graduation was to complete an unpaid, 15-week internship in my field of work. I was lucky enough to get accepted to complete the last credits I needed to earn my credentials at a behavioral center in an inpatient psychiatric setting. Not only was it an amazing experience to gain more knowledge in my field, but I also got to create new activities and implement them, which I owe great credit to my mentor for allowing me to do.
The biggest thing I did was implement ‘positive quotes of the day’ into the patient’s daily schedule. Every morning, I write a new, positive, uplifting quote on the day along with the date as a reminder of the goal we are trying to follow for the rest of the day: be more hopeful by following these words. I use it to promote:
- Creative/Abstract Thinking
- Meaning in Life
- Goal Setting
- Group Discussions
- Redirection Techniques
I think anyone can benefit from simply reading quotes…and maybe even writing them down! Here is a link on a great article on The Science Behind Why Inspirational Quotes Motivate Us to get a better understanding of the true power behind this. Check it out!
